Bard College for 5e
Picture the inn on a busy night. There's a bard on the little stage, and then there's this one, at a corner table, keeping an eye on which table is about to start a fight and knowing the one song the whole province half-knows.
In a fight, one use of Bardic Inspiration starts a Chorus. That's small dice in a lot of hands, and each one is a separate chance to flip a miss, a save, or a check that mattered. A third verse waits for when the room has spent itself. Away from the fighting, an hour with the regulars works through a short menu of questions. It can turn up what the town is afraid of or whose tab has run a week deep, and the party hears the news before travelers carry it in.
